Society and Environment
At Atwell College, studies of Society and Environment aim to develop student's knowledge of their world, capacity to locate and evaluate all types of information, make informed opinions and decisions in the future, develop empathy and appreciate points of view. These are all valuable skills for a young person to carry with them in the journey from Atwell College student to Australian and world citizen.
The context for this is the disciplines of History, Geography, Civics and Economics. Together they cover a range of man's activities and endeavours, in a thread running from ancient times, through medieval times and into the modern era.
Underlying all these studies are the interlocking themes of sustainability, Australia's links with Asia and cross-cultural perspectives. In doing this, we endeavour at to fully prepare young people to face a rapidly changing and ever more complex and challenging world.
