Atwell College

Middle School

Atwell College recognises that each child is an individual; that all children are creative; that all children need to succeed. Therefore, Atwell College respects the individual needs of children; fosters a caring and creative environment; and emphasises the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of each child.

The Middle School caters for students in Years 7 to 9. At Atwell College there are three middle school teams spread over three learning communities; Alpha Block, Beta Block and Kappa Block. Each team has a Team Leader and teachers who work as part of the team. This encourages collaboration, sharing and a holistic approach to learning principles. In Year 7 the students work in homerooms, while in Years 8 and 9 the teachers assist them in their transition towards individualised learning and a routine of study in order to optimise their potential in the Senior School.

A specialist homeroom class for middle school SEN students is located in each learning community; Alpha Block, Beta Block and Kappa Block. An additional Middle School SEN class is located in the Kim Beazley Learning Community where a curriculum coordinator is located to assist with specialized curriculum.
