Atwell College Students Shine in the Atwell Youth Awards 2014

Atwell College Arts Learning Area had 12 entries exhibited in the prestigious Atwell Youth Awards on June 12. Despite its name sounding very close to home, the exhibition was not affiliated with our school, instead it was organised by the Atwell Arts Centre in Alfred Cove. The annual exhibition has been running for 12 years and showcases a range of creative and talented artwork in 2D and 3D from both public and private schools. There were a total of 250 artworks from students in Years 7 to 12 this year which filled the gallery and looked fantastic. opening night was a full house of parents, art teachers and student artists attending.

At the presentation awards Atwell College had two students who received awards for excellent and skilled art work.

Paige Johnston took out first prize in the Year 7 category for her excellent mixed media surrealist piece of a hybrid animal titled "Untitled".

In the Year 11 category Alex Giblin received joint second prize. Alex's painting "Sunset Landscape" was a highly detailed boab tree in black contrasting with coloured vertical block strips representing the sunset.

Visual Arts staff would like to acknowledge the following students who also created fantastic artwork exhibited at the Atwell Youth Award: Rhiannon Cook, Angelika Hapis, Laura Farmer, Sarah Lim, Dejana Jovanovic, Kiana Stafford, Savannah Dos Santos, Brooke Perry and Taneisha Van Reenen.
